Disclaimer: Unfortunately, we now live in a world which requires disclaimers.  Ugh!  The information
contained on this page is only meant to help veterans and their families research different medications
which are available to treat the symptoms of PTSD.  This
is not medical advice.  You should consult your
own physician
to find out what, if any, medications are appropriate for your situation.

Treating Symptoms of PTSD

PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, can't be "cured" with medication.  However,
there are several medications available which can be used to treat many of the most
common symptoms of PTSD.  If you (or your Veteran) will be taking any medication to help
with PTSD, please be aware that finding the right prescription and the right dosage level
may take some time.  But, the improved quality of life gained makes the effort worthwhile!

We are still working on this page and hope to have more, detailed information available
soon.  Until then, the sites listed below are excellent references!

Helpful Sites for PTSD Medication Info

Medications for Combat PTSD - A detailed page written by Jonathan Shay (a Staff
Psychologist at the Boston VA Clinic).  This is probably the best body of information we've
found specifically related to Combat PTSD medications.  His experience treating Vets
allows him to speak from experience - giving specific ideas, recommendations, and things
to consider.  VERY good info!

Medications for PTSD & Other Anxiety Disorders - Has several good references to how
different drugs work.  When looking through the list, look for "PTSD" under the "Target
Anxiety Disorder" column.

PTSD Medications Forum Archive - A list of past article about PTSD medications on
